On this page are Backgrounds that are for Changeling Kithain and Kinain. Some are not allowed for Kinain and are noted.

Chimera

This stat is for Chimerical Items taken at character generation.

  • Book Reference: WW92041 Changeling: the Dreaming (20th Anniversary) pg.#169
  • May take multiple items, but only one magical. Levels together must add up to your total # of dots taken.
    • Example: 3 dots in Chimera can get you a level 3 Chimerical item, or a level 1 and a level 2, or three different level 1 items, but only one can be magical.
    • Second Edition allowed it to be one at each level, 20th does not.
  • Needs a +note set with details on items. If they are found on our +equip/types list, please include that in the +note.
  • It is very rare for a Kinain to have any of these. It will be approved only at staff discretion. (WW92041 Changeling: the Dreaming (20th Anniversary) pg.#460)

Dross

  • Book Reference: This is a House Ruled Background.
  • Same as Resources, but for chimerical goods.

Staff has implemented a new background for Changelings called: Dross. This background is a measure of a PC's chimerical wealth. This stat will be equivalent to the same level of: Resources, but for buying minor chimerical goods. A player can spend xp to buy Dross as per +rules XP Costs.

  • Cannot be stockpiled, except by declaring it up front for a specific item, and how.

Staff encourages you to RP to find raw materials.

To harvest raw materials from the landscape:

  • Find an area of the Dreaming (or normalspace, if you have Infusion 1) with appropriate material. Open a +request and declare where you are and what you are looking for and how.
  • Roll Dexterity + Kenning vs 7 (6 for nockers/boggans/nunnehi) to the job.
    • Success = Staff will determine what you find in what amounts (see table below). You can't harvest that same type of material from that same location for the rest of the month.
    • Fail = You can't harvest that same type of material from that same location for the rest of the day. After that, you can try again with no penalty.
    • Botch = You can't harvest that same type of material from that same location for the rest of the month. After that, you can try again with no penalty.

Large items may require extra raw materials at staff discretion. Average 'volume' for 1 success is about 12 pounds, but this varies by type of material.

Not Allowed

  • Golem: This Background is no longer allowed due to changes in C20 and the Infusion Art.
  • Political Connections: This Background is no longer allowed as it does not work well on a MUSH.
  • Scathach Status: This Background is no longer allowed while the sphere rebuilds in C20, may be revisited later.

Inanimae

Husk

This background indicates how skilled an inanimae has become in forging her Husks. Without this Background, the character appears similar to her Dreamform, and is easily subjected to the forces of Banality through disbelief when confronted by humans.
