“She walks in beauty, like the night

Of cloudless climes and starry skies; And all that's best of dark and bright,
Meets in her aspect and her eyes. ”
– Lord George Gordon Byron

Overview

xxxxx The Littlest One crept through the rainbow fields swiftly and quietly in the dead of the night, her eyes alight with the prospect of a new adventure.

xxxxx Ahead, the fabled windmills sat and she stared at them with rapt attention.

xxxxx Here lay the fable of Don Quixote de la Mancha, hero and adventurer. She knew then what she had to do.

xxxxx The Littlest One cast aside her designation as the runt of the litter and took up the appellation of Dulcinea, Don Quixote's one true love, his Muse, his life. Someday she would live up to his memory.

Dramatis Personae
  • Ferdinand Lost in a world of his own devising. I hope very much he can find his way out.
  • Gidget Some people can't find the forest for all the trees. I think this one's just lost.
RP Hooks
  • Poetry bridges the gap between the mind and the soul. If you happen to attend poetry readings or quote idly, Dulce has a way of appearing to listen or contribute.
  • One can nearly always find Dulcinea near the ocean when there's no pressing matters to attend. She particularly likes to stand at the tops of cliffs.
  • She can be anywhere or nowhere and cares little for convention which might suggest otherwise. Like wandering into your apartment if the door is open and there's something of interest.
  • Any time someone is standing around in the middle of the night being moderately inobtrusive Dulcinea might just happen to say hi. She doesn't always recognize the intent to be alone and really makes quite the amiable stalker.
  • Finally, Dulce will really go anywhere that isn't excessively loud and do almost anything that doesn't require too much money. Carnivals (looking isn't so expensive), arcades, malls, and especially the Marina.

On Existence

  • Is there truly a thing called death? Even Dulcinea couldn't tell you.
  • When the spirit and the mind combine the body may wander but the soul is never lost.
  • In seeking out others you come to know yourself.

Dulcinea

For what I want of Dulcinea del Toboso she is as good as the greatest princess in the land. For not all those poets who praise ladies under names which they choose so freely really have such mistresses. I am quite satisfied to imagine and believe that the good Aldonza Lorenzo is so lovely and virtuous.

- Excerpt from "The Ingenious Gentleman Don Quixote de La Mancha" by Miguel Cervantes

Poetry Readings

On Death John Keats

Can death be sleep when life is but a dream
And scenes of bliss pass as a phantom by?
The transient pleasures as a vision seem,
And yet we think the greatest pain's to die.

Ode to the West Wind Percy Bysshe Shelley

Oh wild West Wind, thou breath of Autumn's being—
Thou from whose unseen presence the leaves dead are driven,
Like ghosts from an enchanter fleeing.

Requiescat Oscar Wilde

Tread lightly she is near,
Under the snow.
Speak gently, she can hear
The daisies grow.

Dream Edgar Allan Poe

In visions of the dark night
I have dreamed of joy departed-
But a waking dream of life and light
Hath left me broken-hearted.

Porphyria's Lover Robert Browning

The rain set early in tonight,
The sullen wind was soon awake,
It tore the elm-tops down for spite,
And did its worst to vex the lake:
I listened with heart fit to break.
