Mathilde Becker was born in a rural area of Germany, the sort of place that seems hardly to have changed in hundreds of years, nestled in a green valley and removed from many of the interests of the outside world. The community was insular and very traditional, set in its ways. While Matty loved the beauty there, and loves her family and community, there were problems, deep serious issues that she noted but felt she could neither correct nor discuss with those around her. A visitor to her community, a guest visiting for a special occasion, heard Matty's concerns and offered her, if not a solution for her community, at least a way out for herself. Taking up the woman's offer, Matty has come to Prospect to attend University here, a new start in a new country.
