"A kind of abstract thing of evil, he has no nobility, nor does he inhabit the dark world of majestic satanic villains. Instead, he is a lower kind of evil, an obscene and loathsome creature that dwells amid decay and slime and crawling rats."
-Malcolm South, Mythical and Fabulous Creatures

The most visibly cursed of all Kindred, the Embrace warps each Nosferatu into a hideously deformed creature; the archetypal Nosferatu resembles Max Shreck's Count Orlok, though the curse has any number of variations.

The Nosferatu are the spymasters of the dead, collecting information and selling it for a dear price. They are also the masters of the underground, living in the sewers for protection.

Due to their inherent clan weakness, all Nosferatu have Appearance ratings of zero. They may not improve Appearance with experience points. Most Social actions based on first impressions, except intimidation and the like, fail automatically.

Organization

Nosferatu are generally organized into broods; communities centrally located around a sewer system and serving as underground cities which may house dozens of their kind. Nosferatu are stereotyped as ugly on the outside, humane on the inside - this is not entirely true. There are many Nosferatu who never leave the sewers, the Nosferatu make a habit of sending their friendliest to communicate with the rest of the Camarilla.

Nosferatu strongly stress clan loyalty over almost everything else. Given their hideous appearance, they depend heavily on clan support structures for everything from havens to food. Broods are generally gerontocratic, with the eldest Nosferatu setting policy and guiding the youngest. Most Nosferatu can acquire jobs within their clan, including assisting on construction or other survival projects. Most Nosferatu are inculcated with a survivalist mentality and increasing the strength of their havens is a constant preoccupation. The Nosferatu also use ghouled animals as defenses and have created Spawning pools, which are tainted by their vitae and turn, over the course of many years, every animal that drinks from them into a monstrous creature loyal only to the brood.

Helpful Hints

Shreknet-01.png

The Nosferatu clan survives and thrives through knowledge, preparation, and infrastructure. While their curse forces them into the margins, it also grants them access to networks and pathways other Kindred never fully see. Several Backgrounds, Lores, and systems are commonly associated with Nosferatu characters and are often expected (though not required) for effective play

Knowledge: Sewer Lore

Lore: Sewer represents a character’s understanding of the physical underworld beneath a city: storm drains, abandoned tunnels, maintenance corridors, forgotten infrastructure, and the ways those spaces connect.

This Lore is particularly important for Nosferatu, as much of the clan’s movement, safety, and secrecy depends on navigating areas inaccessible or unknown to others. So if you plan on your character to be a Tunnel Runner (tm) then you'll want to buy Lore_Sewer to at least 3 to be able to get around without getting lost.

Background: Information Network

Information Network represents a Nosferatu’s personal intelligence web: informants, watchers, data caches, rumor pipelines, and quiet observers who feed information back to the character over time.

This Background does not represent individual Contacts or Allies. Instead, it reflects a system that gathers, filters, and contextualizes information automatically. it is also how you access the Shreknet +bboard and channels.

ShreckNet

ShreckNet is the Nosferatu clan’s shared information web: a fragmented, paranoid, clan-only network used to exchange intelligence, rumors, warnings, and favors.

ShreckNet is not a single database, website, or chat server. It is best understood as a distributed collection of nodes, caches, couriers, and encrypted channels layered atop both mortal systems and clan traditions.

Obfuscate Is a Tool, Not a Crutch

Obfuscate allows you to exist in spaces you otherwise could not — but it is not invisibility in the narrative sense.

  • Do not assume Obfuscate solves every problem
  • Maintain plausible deniability even while unseen
  • Be aware that Auspex, technology, animals, and accidents still matter
  • Expect consequences if you rely on it carelessly

Veteran Nosferatu plan as though Obfuscate will fail at the worst possible moment.

Maintain Multiple Identities

Nosferatu rarely survive with a single face or name.

  • Keep at least one mortal-facing identity
    • Preferably one with a low social footprint
  • Consider a secondary persona for information gathering
  • Separate routines, locations, and habits for each identity
  • Expect some identities to burn over time

Losing an identity should be inconvenient, not catastrophic.

Respect Clan Etiquette

Nosferatu politics are quieter, but no less dangerous.

  • Information has value; do not give it away casually
  • Credit sources when sharing intelligence within the clan
  • Never expose another Nosferatu’s:
    • Haven
    • Escape routes
    • Feeding grounds
  • Understand that silence itself can be a favor

Burning trust within the clan lasts longer than breaking a boon elsewhere.

Be Patient

Nosferatu play the long game.

  • Influence accumulates quietly
  • Reputation spreads slowly, but permanently
  • Favors compound over time
  • Survival itself is success

You do not need to win tonight. You need to still be here next year.
