Having fled Prospect for the Nexus during the city-wide blackout, by Tuesday Vic is feeling stir-crazy. She performs the Virtual Adept rote Search Engine to get in contact with someone who will be able to help her with Spirit and her desire to figure out how to get a familiar and what might be a good solution for her uneducated desires for such a thing. As she completes the minor rite and releases the combination of Data and Entropy energies her cell phone rings as if receiving a call but when she answers it the line is ringing as if she had called someone else...

Merek would take a moment to answer the phone, while he speaks, "Greetings, this is Merek, do you need anything?" he asks, while he thinks to himself.

Chuckling as she recognizes the voice before the name is said, Vic says, "Apparently I need you. I'm at the Nexus is it safe to come to where you are and do you have a suggested way for me to get there?"

"I can teleport you to here," Merek notes, while he speaks, "I don't think it will be that much an issue, it's fairly safe in my own place," he then adds.

"Alright, let me grab my messenger bag," Vic replies. After a brief pause she again speaks, saying, "I'm ready."

Merek would begin to prepare that ritual, while he chants a few words, then he draws a data line onto the floor. He would begin to shift the flow, and Vic would be put into many pieces and regathered along into the place. The place does keep light from that lantern which he keeps about.

After being de-materialized and then materialized nearly a hundred miles away Vic says, in a decent Ford Prefect impersonation, "And now I need a stiff drink," with a wink to the senior mage who brought her here. With a glance at the lantern she also asks, "Still no power as of yet?" sounding like she knows the question is redundant but that she likely couldn't help herself for some reason.

"Not at the moment, I could put in for power although, I think that might attract attention, instead I'm using magical artifice," Merek notes, nodding a little. There's a look to the place, "Anyway, feel free to get what you like from that fridge."

Vic frowns and shakes her head. She sets her bag down on one end of the couch and stares at the named appliance. "You don't open a refrigerator without power," she says and then asks, "Or do you have it magicked up to make that not a concern?"

"It's magic, well it's nice," Merek nods then to Vic, while he seems to think about it, "Anyway, what would you like to ask?"

Speaking as she opens the fridge and gets a bottled soda out of it, Vic says, "Familiars. Spirits to make them. I need to know about them as I'd like to have one." She pops the bottle open with a bottle opener and takes a swig from it before saying, "I assume with the way my rote caused our phones to ring to each other that you can help me with this gap in my education."

"Well, I can teach you about familiars, though it's a personal choice, if you just want spirit teaching to know the way to get your own, that works as well," Merek notes, nodding a little bit to Vic.

"Anything you can share would help," Vic says as she takes a seat next to her bag on the sofa. "I really don't understand the limits of them or the pros and cons of what options I do know about them."

"Well, there are different kinds, spiritual, technological, things like that. Though you can only have that one you are with be of one type," Merek notes, nodding a bit to Vic while he thinks about it, "Each comes with powers."

Vic nods and , after taking another sip of the cream soda, says, "Well, assume I know nothing and teach then please?"

"I can do all of that," Merek notes, while he takes a moment to prepare what looks to be a scroll which he will be using to write with.

Seeing the scroll and completely oblivious of the tech buried beneath the house and going based on her meager knowledge of Merek, Vic says, "You're truly old school there, that's pretty cool," and then offers, "I'll teach you the ins and outs of computing if you'd like at some point in return for the lesson about spirits."

"I already have a deck and my own persona for the Digital Web, my family works with the tech industry also," Merek notes, while he nods a bit to Vic.

Vic snerks. "Of course you do," she says, "And of course you use a term out of cyberpunk fiction." She chuckles and sets the now emptied soda bottle aside. "Serves me right to make an assumption based on appearances and Traditions, huh?"

"It's alright. And, I just like to learn different things," Merek notes, while he nods a bit to Vic, "It's a nice way to keep magic coincidental, even." The man smiles, then thinks about it, "What do you think would be a familiar you would like?"

Vic shrugs and smiles at the same time. "So... something I can carry like a PDA would be nice. But... that could transform and be self-mobile. And could join me in the DWeb... and if it could fly that'd be interesting," she's meandering a bit and obviously doesn't know exactly what she wants nor can do.

"That would be a familiar which is possible, though it might take a bit of work, not sure on the flying. Either way, you will probably want to find a Digital Web denizen that you think would work with you, if you'd like to travel there sometime," Merek notes.

Vic nods. "I'm no stranger to the DWeb," Vic says, "Denizens of it... not really sure there, you mean Programs?"

"Yes, Programs," Merek notes with a nod along to Vic.

Vic ohs. "Well, then yeah, I've interacted with Digital Spirits before I guess," she says explaining, "Mostly before I came here with my mentor's assistance in entering the Dweb." As an aside she further explains, "I wasn't capable of entering it on my own prior to coming to this world and getting more Spheres unlocked."

Merek nods a bit to Vic while he seems to think about it, "Well anyway, we can find you a Program you would like, although that will be up to you once in the Web."

"That makes sense, yeah, and... I guess I'd need Spirit magic to do this or do you think I could make it happen using Data?" Vic asks as she gets up and takes the empty bottle to the kichen. Before grabbing another she asks, "Want a soda also?" and notes, "Oh, power's returning," as a streetlight glow is seen outside.

Merek turns on the lights as well when it seems like power's back.

Merek would nod a little after Vic's words with him turning that light back on. "Thank you," he notes, then he speaks, "Data? I think Dimensional Science is usually what people use, you would probably need Spirit if you have that, DimSci works."

Vic shakes her head and says, "No, I don't have Spirit or DimSci unlocked and I'm not that Tech-oriented. My paradigm definitely allows for the existence of Spirits."

"Well then, we'll just need to work on that then, that or I'll bring you into the Web, I will assist you in all you need, while teaching you," Merek offers.

Vic chuckles and says, "I'd be a pretty lame V-Dept if I couldn't access the DWeb... but getting a Spirit bonded and all as a Familiar is beyond me so I'd greatly appreciate the help!" She then asks, "So, finding a Program... or Digital Spirit... that I can tolerate or get along with is mission one I guess, right?"

"Yes, that's up to you, it's a personal experience," Merek mentions, nodding a bit to Vic. "We could go for anyone, but a lot of Magi want a unique one that seems to work for them," he notes.

Having opened both bottles of soda, Vic brings one to Merek and then sits down. She pulls her laptop out of her bag and unfolds the screens as it powers up. She takes notes on it as Merek teaches her the basic facts about Spirits, not just those in the Digital Web but definitely including those. She occasionally interrupts to ask some clarification questions but for the most part the next hour is the dual Tradition Bastet Kinfolk speak on subjects including the Umbra, Totems, and other topics tangential to Spirits. Naturally, as the pair are mages, the topic continually brushes against Spirit - the sphere - and how various mages Merek has met and talked to have expressed how their Spirit Senses work for them.

When told that's all for the lesson at this time, Vic says, "Wow, that's a lot to absorb... but thank you. I'll do some research in the libraries at the Nexus and Roasters also. Maybe I'll be able to unlock Spirit myself soon."

Merek nods a bit, explaining a lot about spirits, then the man seems to think about it, "It's great knowledge to keep," he notes, while he takes a moment to pour himself what looks to be a rum, while he takes a sip from it.

"Thank you so much, Merek," Vic says as she folds her laptop's screens down, powering it off after saving her notes. Packing away the computer before she stands she says, "With the power returning I have to get back to the gym and supervise getting the servers online and setup. I'll get in touch when I'm ready to start the process of Claiming a Spirit as a Familiar," as she heads towards the door, counting on the Blackout covering the lack of a visible arrival for any of Merek's neighbors to wonder where the visiting woman came from.
