OOC: This is a repository for data about the Sabbat hierarchy in Monterrey. Feel free to reference these NPCs in your own doings, but if you use them in any significant way (like, say, being their childe or killing one of them in a PRP), please give Cheree's player a heads-up as a courtesy.

General Info

Monterrey is, according to six-year-old Google results, Mexico's wealthiest city per capita, and also its most "Americanized." The Archbishop of the city (and indeed, all of Nuevo Leon) is El Intocable, a Tzimisce who is, to use the technical jargon, a giant asshole. However, he's a competent, canny, and even inspiring asshole, and Mexico City regards him as integral to keeping stability in the region, as he has successfully warded off lupine intrusion into his territory for around twenty years now (twenty years ago being when he rose to power, via Monomancy).

Because of the "Americanized" aspects of Monterrey, and its "safe" status as far as lupine attacks, Mexico City will sometimes send delegations there to meet with American Sabbat packs on "neutral ground" when such a thing is necessary.

El Intocable is a demanding and easily angered Archbishop. He hates Anarchs with a passion, and those who do not show proper deference to him (i.e. reporting in at local esbat and then moving the fuck along once their business is through) will often find themselves targeted by his wrath. Because of his brutish, bullying demeanor, Monterrey has a smaller-than-average permanent population of Cainites, but that population is above-average in terms of competence. You either sink or swim in Monterrey. There's no third option. For every Cainite who's made their name there, there are five who tried their hand at it and either died or fled.

After packs from Baja California assisted El Intocable in dealing with the problem of a Harbinger of Skulls that had degraded into a wight, El Intocable has pledged himself as an ally to Selena, and to Selena's subordinate Bishops (e.g. Carys, Spotted-Horse, etc.).

Packs and Personalities

La Familia de Monterrey

The ruling pack of Monterrey; lucha libre professional wrestlers who run the city like gangsters. Currently comprised solely of the Archbishop and his two large childer. El Intocable is based out of Arena Coliseo Monterrey, a real-life lucha libre arena. The three of them appear to wear hooded lucha libre masks at all times, but closer inspection will reveal that they've actually fleshcrafted their faces into these guises.

Name Clan Title Notes
MtyIntocable.jpg El Intocable Tzimisce Ductus/Archbishop El Arzobispo de Monterrey y Estado Libre y Soberano de Nuevo León. Hulkingly strong, cannonball-belly obese, frighteningly charismatic; please consult Cheree about using this NPC
MtyEfectivo.jpg El Efectivo Tzimisce Priest Inscrutable and quiet
MtyIngobernable.jpg El Ingobernable Tzimisce Templar Hot-headed and bellicose

Los Patrónes

A pack with deep influence upon the international businesses that operate in Monterrey. In a sex comedy about ski instructors, they would be the snobby rich kids who challenge the scrappy losers to a ski race, and if they win, they get to turn the ski school into luxury condos. They take pride in their high-society ways and social standing, and mesh poorly with riff-raff.

Name Clan Title Notes
MtyRafa.jpg Rafael "Rafa" Medina Ventrue antitribu Ductus A charming, smooth-talking, exceptional political player; has risen to his station despite being already on two strikes with El Intocable from the word go, for 1. not being a Tzimisce or Lasombra and 2. being Panamanian
MtyMaria.jpg María Santamaría Lasombra Priest Chilly and precise
MtyWilliam.jpg William Muñoz Toreador antitribu Templar Affable and easy-going, until it's time for him to kill you
MtyJose.jpg José Luis Soria Brujah antitribu Gambling addict, but competent enough for people to overlook it most of the time
MtyEfren.jpg Efren Tiburcio Lasombra Paranoid and cautious
MtyErnestina.jpg Ernestina Salazar Zantosa Revenant Submissive and compliant; Rafa won her from El Intocable in a card game, and Intocable is still pissed about it

Los Vipers

A pack that survived from the previous Archbishop's era into the current one. Its Ductus, Keyra, was until recently the pack's Templar, but rose to Ductus when the previous Ductus was killed trying to take out the Harbinger-wight. The rest of the pack are a motley but effective assemblage of warriors who are often the first call made when it comes time to go off and marshal the troops in some other part of Nuevo Leon to stop any lupine trouble.

Name Clan Title Notes
125px Keyra (full name unknown) Tzimisce Ductus Was an aerobics instructor when she was embraced in 1985; remains an aerobics instructor in 1985. Positive, upbeat, go-team!, helpful
MtyLuis.jpg Luis Aguilar Tzimisce Priest Wiseass with a big mouth
MtyFaby.jpg Fabiola "Faby" Balbuena Lasombra Depressed and morbid
MtyGenaro.jpg Genaro Vásquez Nosferatu antitribu Longest-lived Sabbat of any note in Monterrey, believed to be around 250 years old; wise and teacherly; keeper of the secrets that died with others, and that's most of why he's survived so long
MtyIsabel.jpg Isabel Ordóñez Ravnos antitribu Seems to have no interests or hobbies beyond collecting lupine heads; has collected quite a lot of lupine heads

Unpacked

Name Clan Title Notes
MtyKevin.jpg "Spanish Kevin" (full name unknown) Lasombra The most streetwise man in all of Monterrey, who always knows a guy or can get you a deal on something, no matter the situation. Rumored to be part of various back-room connections with the Giovanni. No one trusts him, but everyone goes to him, and he treats every customer like his best friend. His proven track record is the only reason El Intocable hasn't thrown him halfway to the Indian Ocean.
MtyMasami.jpg Masami Odate Tzimisce A Japanese Tzimisce who came to Mexico seeking opportunity and wealth, Masami instead finds herself over 60 million pesos in debt to El Intocable, who bailed her out of a messy situation with a drug cartel. As hard as Masami works to repay her debt, Intocable keeps finding new ways to add to it, and she bitterly resents him. The other packs tend to view her as a bungler after that initial disaster.
MtyKira.jpg Melissa Cervantes Ventrue antitribu A wealthy American real estate developer working with El Intocable. Intocable makes Melissa's job easier, and kickbacks from her businesses and luxury properties make Intocable even more rich. She's extremely type-A, and prefers to be a loner most of the time. She meets Rafa, her fellow Ventrue, for dinner sometimes, but seems to have no love lost with the rest of his pack, especially María.

Former Residents

  • Ellen Zoe "E.Z." Rider — former Templar; exiled by El Intocable for failing to keep secure the site where a Harbinger-wight was being kept; currently a Templar in Ensenada, under Bishop Carys Thomas; please consult Noa's player for more info as this is her NPC
  • Tlilpotonqui — Harbinger of Skulls; went insane and de-evolved into a wight; was staked by a group from Tijuana and delivered to El Intocable, who in turn gave the staked wight to the Cardinal in Mexico City

Other Monterrey Stuff

Arm Wrestling, Monterrey-Style

A peculiar local enthusiasm and favorite Game of Instinct among the Monterrey Sabbat, picked up from who-knows-where. It combines the traditional arm wrestling model with something like the dozens; artfully psyching out your opponent or whipping up the crowd is considered of equal importance to actually being good at arm wrestling.

Rules:

  • Both players roll either Charisma+Expression (to work up the crowd) or Manipulation+Intimidation (to psyche out the opponent). Merits apply. Presence and magic are considered cheating, and anyone who is caught out via Awareness is generally punished in some way (like having their arm broken and then being made to arm wrestle with the broken arm).
  • Whoever has the most successes in the above contest takes the difference by which they won, and includes it as extra dice in a contested straight Strength roll. Merits and Potence apply, but again, magic is considered cheating.

Example:

  • Keyra rolls Manipulation+Intimidation for 4 successes.
  • William rolls Charisma+Expression for 2 successes.
  • 4 - 2 = 2, so Keyra adds 2 dice to her Strength roll.
  • Keyra rolls Strength+2 for 1 success.
  • William rolls Strength for 4 successes.
  • So even though Keyra got the psychological advantage by shit-talking William, William still came back and won the actual contest of strength.
