A Harpy's Primer

The following is based off the document, "A Harpy's Primer" produced by OKC By Night.

Introduction to the Harpies

Harpies can be any Kindred within the Camarilla. Whether you are experienced at it, or brand new, the following information is meant to help, teach, refresh, and be a reference. What you will find is hopefully answers you can point others to, and give you reminders when scandal comes about and you are looking for just where it fits categorically.

How can I become a Harpy?

It has been rumored that harpies are appointed by the Prince, or elected by the Primogen Council. This is not true. If someone would like to join the harpies, they must make it known to the current harpies, plead their case as to why they would benefit from their presence in their circle, and pledge to keep the traditions. Having the support of the Primogen Council would be a benefit as well and give the harpies more reason to entertain the request for an audience to discuss the possibility. At some point, the harpies will decide one way or another to the request, which could include an interview.

What Every Harpy Need to Know

The Traditions

Read them. Memorize them. Bookmark them. Not just the title, but what it means. Not only to hold to it, but to break it. All 7 of them.
(If you do not know the 7th tradition, just ask).

What is a Scandal?

The job of a Harpy is to gossip and spread information outside of the circle of harpies. A Scandal that is kept private is not a scandal. This is why we provide reports, and keep communication open with the Camarilla as a whole.

In doing so, nobody is above the harpies. Harpies have the power to judge any scandal, that includes if it is committed by a Primogen, or a Prince. Resting in the hands of the Harpies is your reputation, and the Camarilla recognizes the need for scandals to be found and judged. Any that would stop a harpy from doing her job, without the proof to remove a scandal or clarify it, is just as guilty as the Kindred that committed it.

Duties and Responsibilities

Harpies have two responsibilities. First is to make public every scandal and success, thus recognizing Kindred for their behavior. Second is keeping meticulous records, for the Sect, and especially the other harpies.

Reputation

The harpies are to keep all Kindred behaving in a manner that befits their station. Knowing every Kindred in the Domain, as well as many in surrounding areas is vital.
