Faces-bg.jpg
Summary

The Criminal Bureau of Investigation reports that 20 adults go missing in the city of Prospect every day. Additionally they report a similar statistic for minors. In a city of roughly 1.5 million, they're barely an investigated crime. Mostly such disappearance are on the fast track to the cold case file or picked up by private investigators if the families of those who vanished have money. When it's people who society have written off: the prostitutes and runaway population they're just gone and no one seems to care. But when someone is abducted it becomes a different matter entirely.

Abducted people aren't just missing - they were taken. They didn't just fall off the radar or vanish to go live on a farm in Iowa, someone stole them away and typically not for good reasons. The news has reported that someone got taken and it ticked the first in a series of dominoes. People realized that she wasn't the first one taken. Others have gone missing and all within a relatively small space in downtown. Who's behind this? What's to be done about it?

People go missing all the time, but do we really care? They're just an anonymous statistic; a fact of life in a big city.

They're little more than faces in the rain.

Updates

What this space for updated information regarding the plot.

10/25/20: The Lead

This plot is slowly being restarted from its initial attempt. So everything that happened with the first, false start is being removed (since it was nearly eight months ago this should be fine). What this space for updated information regarding the plot.

  • Local News: Last Week a local woman was reported abducted in Downtown. Sources within the police force report that the abduction was on 4th street between F and E streets at approximately 1 a.m. The woman was described as "stunningly beautiful" by an employee of the Best Buy at the Cliffside Village Shopping Center. The employee wishes to have their name withheld by mentioned seeing the woman enter the Styx and Stones bar across the street when they were locking up the store to leave. The employee described seeing the woman enter the bar alone and that's why it caught their attention. Authorities are continuing to investigate the abduction but as yet no leads have been reported.
  • Streetwise 2: People have been turning up missing lately. And not just -any- old person but those super hot ones that be walking into bars up on 4th. Oh, they walk in and walk out of the bar alright - getting in they cars or walking down the street like nothing can touch em. But then you hear the roar of a half-dozen bikes let loose and those people ain't be seen since.
Rumors report that there maybe some connection to "some slave thing going on down in China Town something else out in the Desert", but there's no definite proof as to a clear connection with either.

Location

  • Streetwise: This is mostly an issue people would know about through their connections to the street.
  • Downtown: Most of the reported cases have all happened downtown.

Hooks

  • Investigation: Are you the type that likes to follow clues, uncover evidence and piece together motives from seemingly unrelated cases?
  • Do-Gooder: People are turning up Missing. They have families and you know people are worried about them.
  • Crime: Cop? Criminal? Stuff is going on in your city and may have further-reaching effects than just a few random faces in the rain.
  • Wierdness: The woman was taken during a storm - so big deal right? The night the big storm hit and the woman was taken, the power flickered for four blocks in that area; just four. It was like someone was playing with a switch; it went off, and on three times. Each time was for for exactly 23 seconds.

Themes

  • Missing Persons: People turn up missing but does anyone really care. The hook for this plot is when someone turns up missing that has people looking for them. They're not just "anyone" on the street, they're a "someone".
  • Kidnapping / Abduction: Kidnapping / Abductions happen all the time in the city so why do we care about the latest victim? Why was -this- one put on the news? Oh, her family has money and that's why we seem to care, right?
  • Murder: People who turn up missing at one point typically are found murdered at the other. Whatever they saw when they were taken can never be spoken of for fear that it might incriminate whoever it was that took them.
  • High Society / Media: This last missing person has the media's attention mostly because of the woman's connection to High Society and big money.
