"You shall have joy or you shall have power, said God. You shall not have both."

― Ralph Waldo Emerson

Available History:

Howland came to his reward in 2003. He was 29 years old.

His sire, the elder Minnie Carr, was herself very young for her generation - having only been embraced in the late 1830s in what was then the Republic of Texas. Few people know why Ms. Carr chose to embrace Howland. If the man himself knows, he's not telling. For a decade he served as his sire's companion in Phoenix but the relationship eventually soured under conditions as mysterious as his embrace. Though his departure from her domain is ultimately believed to have been amicable, the two haven't spoken since. Howland spent the next several years havening in various locations throughout the American southwest. More recently he's uprooted for greener pastures in Prospect, where the vampire seems eager to establish a new power base for himself. He lives and works in the penthouse of the luxury high-rise Howland Tower, near Fifth and Belvedere.

Digging Deeper:

Even a cursory search reveals more of Howland's story - though it isn't as long as the potency of his blood would suggest.

Alexander Howland was born in Florida, 1974, to Margaret Howland and her second husband, Teddy (she's on her fourth now). Margaret Howland is herself the heir to a real estate fortune over a century in the making, with properties throughout the United States. The young Howland wanted for nothing during his adolescence and early adulthood: Million-dollar Bugattis, skiing in Zermatt, hard partying in Rio de Janeiro, and other - even more exotic - pursuits. His more recent history is murkier and investigations into his activities since the new millennium are far less fruitful.
