Police Shooting Mon Jan 06 Beckett

Prospect, California, January 6th, FOX5 - The police killed two men late Monday in a reported shootout along Harbor Street.
According to police reports , the incident took place in the parking lot of Sam's Grocery resulting in the deaths of Jun Haruto, 20 and Shin Shiori, 22.
A detective involved, Lana Glover has been admitted to hospital in stable condition.
Haruto and Shiori are believed to have been involved in a drive shooting that took place on December 29th 2013, outside the Magic Box. In addition, source are saying both deceased men were illegally in the United States.
Soon after the shooting, Deputy Police Chief, Jon Persaud said that detectives were still processing the crime scene. However the District attorney's investigators had already ruled the shooting justified.

Police Officer Killed Thu Jan 09 Beckett

Prospect, California, January 6th, FOX5 - A police officer was shot and killed early Friday morning in a vacant parking lot off D Street and Canary.
Deputy Police Chief, Jon Persaud said the officer was shot multiple times, once in the head at close range, instantly killing him. The department identified him as Police Officer Jaime Vesper and said he had a wife and two daughters, ages ten and six.
Vesper was responding to a call stating a Police Detective needed assistance, Persaud said. The suspects attacked the officer as soon as he arrived and Vesper didn't have a chance to even pull out his own weapon.
"The suspects used small caliber automatic weapons and shot the officer at point blank range," Persaud said. They then called for more units using his police radio before fleeing, he added.
The Deputy Police Chief declined to identify any possible suspects, or their motive. "This was a routine call," Persaud said. "What makes our job deadly is that there are no routine calls."
"Jamie was a very dedicated and loving husband and father," spokesperson for the family said. "He was not only a dedicated and loving husband, but he was his wife's best friend."
His wife has asked that his death remind all Americans of the value of their police officers.
"As you see police cars pass you each day, please be reminded that those officers put their lives on the line daily," she said. "They put their family second to protect the innocent in this city and across the nation. And we so often forget that."
A fund for the family of Officer Vesper has been established at Chase Bank. Donations can be made at any of the bank's location or at the Prospect City Police Department.

With the protests in Kiev growing increasingly violent, and the negotiations between the opposition and the government of President Yanukovych breaking down after Yanukovych’s concessions failed to disperse the encampment in Independence Square, the activist blogger ‘A Persian Girl’ has unexpectedly surfaced as a voice calling for a peaceful resolution to the crisis, and for President Yanukovych to bow to the will of his people and hold early elections. “She’s here, somewhere,†Viktor Melnyk, a photographer with the AP News service, said, after the posts began appearing. “Her descriptions of the situation on the ground in Independence Square are too detailed, and too accurate. She has to be here.â€
With her trademark mix of hope and anger, and a vivid style of prose that has in the past won the praise of poets and politicians, ‘A Persian Girl’ has painted a clear and compelling picture of life in the two month old encampment in Independence Square, and among the violent protesters who have clashed with police in the days since President Yanukovych’s sweeping anti-demonstration legislation took effect. She has also spoken of the concerns of the protesters, describing their hope for a future where Ukraine is part of the EU and out from under the oppressive influence of Russia, and its President, Vladmir Putin. A post titled ‘Independence Day’ that used descriptions of the sight of the fireworks that protesters have been using as missiles against the police mixing with the fire from the burning barricades of tires and setting the night sky ablaze as a metaphor for the protesters’ struggle for freedom has gone viral, linked on Reddit and reposted on Tumblr blogs.
Leila Rahimi, known at the time only as 'A Persian Girl', was one of the iconic voices of the green revolution in Iran in 2009. Her words inspired a generation in the middle east, even after her death at the hands of an Islamic extremist in the United States in 2010; she is widely credited as one of the inspirations for the arab spring and the Occupy movement in the west. Her blog was kept up as a shrine by some of her supporters, but in June of 2012, it became active again, to report on the protests in Taksim Square in Istanbul. Since then, the unknown blogger writing as ‘A Persian Girl’ has reported on the election and nuclear negotiations in Iran, as well as the corrupt Presidency of Mohamed Morsi in Egypt, and the subsequent military coup. She has even, in a series of graphic and disturbing posts, described some of the atrocities committed in the bloody civil war in Syria. Experts in all three locations have insisted that the clarity and accuracy of the well-travelled blogger’s writing indicates that she must have been reporting from all three locations.

Exclusive Aerobics Studio opens on Fri Feb 07 Arec

Today the boardwalk got a new addition to it's stable of merchants, vendors and businesses. Opening next to Wicked Mystic Bookstore is Luke's Studio, an exclusive aerobics and training studio. Though it features a full compliment of cardio and weight-training machinery, the main focus of the trendy new members-only club, flanked on one side by Wicked Mystic Bookstore and on the other by Jamba Juice, is on regular organized classes.
Many local instructors have been invited to offer classes there in everything ranging from spin class to Zumba to fencing. Regular ballroom dance classes will be hosted on Friday nights, but don't tell the attendees they are there to learn, everyone is encouraged to dress for the occasion.
The owner refused to be named for this article, but John Mont-blanc, the manager, reported that he personally oversaw the installation of a full range of circuit training aerobics devices. But weight machines are also available, and watching the manager bench press five hundred pounds was all the proof needed that there will be a serious weight-training regimen available for those pursuing the perfect physique.
Classes will be available at all times of the day with the gym closing its doors only from midnight to 5 AM. As for membership, there are several pricing tiers, and an application required to get access to the exclusive afterhours events such as fencing, self-defense and ballroom dance classes.

Body found near pier. Sat Mar 22 Dreams-of-Blood

In the morning paper a few pages in a picture shows a old warehouse located near the pier. The warehouse holding police tape across its door while the image of two officers standing watch and talking can be seen. The story reads as follows:
Earlier this morning police were called to an abandoned warehouse in a more run down section near the industrial district near the pier. Upon arrival officers found what according to a inside source is perhaps one of the more confusing deaths of the year, While the victim has not yet been identified pending notification of next of kin we were informed by our sources in the department that it was a male in their mid to late 40's and the body was dessicated and showed signs of possible foul play. Preliminary tissue analysis shows high levels of a hemolytic/necrotoxic compound.

'A Persian Girl' Nominated For Nobel Peace Prize
A group of professors and reporters announced today that they have nominated the person who has been posting to the 'A Persian Girl' blog for the Nobel Peace Prize. "'A Persian Girl' has been to more seats of conflict than many seasoned reporters," said Anderson Cooper, in a prepared statmement. "She's inspired hearts around the world to yearn for peace and freedom. She's told a lot of stories that needed to be told."
The nomination of the 'A Persian Girl' blogger is not without controversy, however, because his or her identity is unknown. "We're hoping this nomination will inspire whoever it is to step forward," said Elliot Lee, a political science professor at Princeton, and one of 'A Persian Girl's supporters. The Nobel committee has yet to rule on whether they will consider awarding a prize to an annonymous individual.
The blog was started in 2006 by Leila Rahimi, and shot into the public eye with Iran's Green Revolution, in 2009. Her vivid prose, and trademark mix of hope and anger won hearts all over the world, and inspired a generation. The blog was left as a shrine to Ms. Rahimi, following her death in 2010, at the hands of an Islamic extremist, until last year, when 'A Persian Girl' started posting about the protests in Taksim Square in Istambul. Since then, the unknown blogger has served as a catalyst of opposition support for Hassan Rouhani, who went on to be elected President of Iran, and described vividly the conditions in Independence Square in Kiev. The blogger has even, in a series of graphic and disturbing posts, recounted some of the atrocities committed in the bloody civil war in Syria. Through all of this, however, the blogger have kept their idientity a secret, although some who knew Ms. Rahimi insist that the writing style being used is too similar to hers for it to be anyone else.

Local Astronomer Nobel Nominee Sun Mar 23 Horatio

A local amateur astronomer has been nominated for a Nobel Prize in physics. Horatio Alexander doesn't even have a PhD, but his groundbreaking work in stellar physics has promised a new and exciting way to explore the solar system. UCLA released the followed press release last week:
UCLA alumnus Horatio Alexander, a guest lecturer at UC Prospect, has been nominated for the 2013 Nobel Prize in physics for his role in figuring out how stellar fluidics are affected by gravity.
At a recent lecture at UC Prospect, he spoke with a class off thirty or so students on the role of gravity on solar flares, sunspots and other stellar phenomena. According to him, and experts at Cambridge, UCLA, and MIT, observation of these phenomena can reliably predict the location of anything in the solar system larger than 15 miles. To put that in perspective, the asteroid that experts believe killed the dinosaurs was probably 45 miles in width.
While the technology has not yet been put in place to document and observe the solar system, critics are hailing this discovery as the smart method for predicting and anticipating impacts, not just here on Earth, but all over the solar system. The science is sound, but apparently, we need an array of satellites to surround the sun, much like the Global Positioning Satellites around the Earth. The estimated cost of such an endeavor? Over three trillian dollars, with a maintenance cost of $110 billion more every year. I guess in this case, smarter is not the same as cheaper.

Drug seizure contested internation Sat Mar 29 Deil

Lawyers were quick to be called in when the DEA seized an estimated 2.1 billion dollars worth of Colombian cocaine today. The raid, which took place at 5:30 PM on Saturday, is being contested as an illegal operation. The captain, Elon Sanchez, through his lawyers, claims that his ship was anchored in international waters. The DEA has publicly denied this claim but it may be weeks before the courts sort through the relevant information and either move forward with charges or release the captain. Mr. Sanchez is a Colombian citizen, and there is the potential that the Colombian government may weigh in on the ruling, making this an international incident. On the evening news, night of March 30, 2014 - camera crews are at an intersection showing the mangled wreckage of an SUV which was cut apart using hydraulic tools to retrieve the injured passengers.
"....Police say the driver of the truck ran a red light and collided head-on with an oncoming vehicle from the other direction. Grace Gow, of Prospect, and Yarden Barkley, also of Prospect, were rushed to the hospital where doctors say they are in the trauma intensive care unit. The driver of the truck was treated for minor injuries. No casualties have been reported...."

Truck Sends SUV Flying, Occupants Land in Hospital

Two women were injured severely Sunday evening in an accident that took place just before 06:00 PM. The large truck was traveling north on Front Street when it entered an intersection against a red light and struck a west-bound SUV. Prospect Police investigators estimated that the SUV may have rolled two to five times after being struck. While police have not given an official cause for the accident, it was apparent to this reporter from evidence at the scene that the driver of the larger vehicle was not watching the road when the light changed.
While the driver of the truck was released with minor injuries; the two local women in the SUV required surgery. Yarden Barkley and Grace Gow were listed in critical but stable condition hours after the accident. Barkley, the apparent driver of the SUV, suffered serious damage to her lower extremities and doctors are working to preserve Barkley's existing leg. Early media reports that Barkley lost a limb in the accident were incorrect, as it appears that Barkley has been a monoped for some time.
Gow, whose garnered fame for her ballet talents in local productions, appeared to be in less serious condition. A possible spinal injury is suspected, however, and when or if she will return to her career is not known at this time. In a related incident, a relative of Gow's was arrested several hours after the accident. Sources at the hospital suggest that the man somehow smuggled a pistol into the recovery ward. When confronted by Prospect Police Officers after starting a scene, the man was arrested and transported to county jail to await arraignment.

This is a scene set / description of a party happening now at the PRP Museum. It would have been advertised in a much more professional matter.
The Primrose has an event every now and then, charity or education or whatnot, and it's time for another. On the night of the blood moon the observatory, always open until an hour before dawn, will be hosting a community event. The café will be staying open late to provide a catered snack food buffet, as well as dishes to order from their regular menu albeit some with Moon inspired names. There will be cocktails and drinks as well, all part of a charity drive to keep the The Primrose operating in the black into the next quarter. There'll be 'Sangria Luna' and other themed drinks as well as some bottled beers. While the food and alcohol has a price, everything is free otherwise. Being that it's dark; security is provided and will escort people to their cars and keep the drunks from driving home with courtesy calls to taxi services. The normal staff is present as well, ready to serve and educate, with a line to use the telescope as well as a live feed projected on the planetarium screen. It's an otherwise low-key affair, but a great place to mingle and enjoy science and puns (from the menus) with like minded people. A CCR Cover band may be preforming outside on the outdoor stage for those that prefer a more naturally viewing.

Drawing Found in Maple Park Thu May 08 Lazarus

A masterful work was found in the park this morning, apparently painted overnight by an unknown artist. The pastel drawing depicts a local tree before which it sat on an easel. The tree is split in half, with one side depicting a vision of the tree which paints it as colorful, random, and entirely alien. The limbs are vibrant stalks of paper leading into sneakers and various other shoes, with bottlecaps topping the branches. The other half is decayed and rotting, having leaned further to the ground as it wilts. The bark is dark and weathered, and the leaves on the tree are either dead or fallen to the ground beneath. The initials L.B. were written in the lower right corner of the work, lending at least some inkling of a clue as to the artists name.

A Persian Girl blogging again Sun Jun 01 Reddit

The blogosphere has been lighting up the last week or so because of a couple of articles that have gone up on the 'A Persian Girl' blog. It seems that A Persian Girl has jumped on the '#bring back our girls' bandwagon, not by joining the outcry about how wrong the kidnapping of the Nigerian schoolgirls is, but by actually going to Nigeria and ensconcing herself in life in that country. She has posted about the schools, and pointed out that many people in that country, women included, feel that girls should be denied the same rights to a good education that boys have. She's talked about how women are treated at home, both in the cities and in more rural areas. But mostly, A Persian Girl has done what she always does -- she's taken a foreign place and a strange culture and, using nothing but beautiful, evocative langauge and a handful of pictures, made them both live.
The reactions to her posts have been mixed. There was a long article on Jezebel that praised her work, while a New York Times op ed columnist commented on the huge disparity between 'clicktivism' and going to Nigeria to get a sense of the bigger picture. One blog post that frontpaged on Reddit was written by a Nigerian woman now living in the United States who spoke movingly of how A Persian Girl's posts made her miss home.

An unidentified gangmember was admitted to the hospital today suffering from third degree burns over seventy percent of his body. No identification has been possible at this point, but early evidence points to an escalation in the violence between Cajun and Crips.
Police officers in the gang task force refused to comment on this particular case, but the PPD Street Gang Unit (SGU) administrator, Lieutenant Charley Thogmartin explained that the problem with prosecuting these cases is that the local gang, the Cajuns, have been facing retaliation from out of town elements increasing the difficulty of pursuing and apprehending the perpetrators. The lieutenant commended the local chapter of the Crips for not retaliating against the aggressive local gang which have, up until this point only exchanged gunfire in non-fatal drive-by assaults.
This time, the local gangmember caught the worst of it. As the victim is a subject of a criminal investigation and may even be a minor, many critical details are not being released to the public. However, one hospital worker claimed that burn victim was given less than a ten percent chance of recovery, so whoever may have committed this act may very well remain a mystery, leaving just another dead end for the hard working and overtasked PPD SGU.

The police have issued an arrest warrant for a man with no identity. Despite lacking a name or even a description of their fugitive police are confident he will be located. "The fugitive is a male, five foot nine inches, and is currently suffering from third degrees burns over the majority of his body."
The individual in question was admitted to Prospect General last week and given less than ten percent chance of survival. He was under twenty four hour supervision by police staff, but escaped the hospital without witnesses. Investigation into hotel security has proved useless. The Burned Man, as hospital staff called him, disappeared late last night. He is wanted for questioning in regards to gang related violence and police consider him to be a dangerous fugitive.
"I honestly didn't think he would live, much less walk out of there." Said one nurse, who declined to give their name. The Burned Man's invalid state can excuse the lapse in security that allowed a suspect to escape their custody, especiallly in light of the recent success the Prospect Police can report in the ongoing turf war. David Torres, a known affiliate with the Cajuns was indicted today on one count of reckless endangerment, and three counts of aiding and abetting known fugitives. "Heat" Style Bank Robbery Thwarted:
Prospect, Ca - In a brazen daytime assault, four assailants armed with illegal automatic weapons entered the Baxter Building branch of the Bank of America intending to take money and hostages. Several bank customers, refusing to play the role of the victim, responded with force. The gunmen, faced with unarmed citizens attempting to defend themselves, opened fire inside the historic building. At least seven persons were hurt in the ensuing chaos, two of which are in critical condition for their injuries.
Despite being heavily out-gunned and taking heavy casualties, the bank customers were able to turn away the squad of robbers. While three gunmen escaped with the help of fifth accomplice, the heroic citizens were able to corner one criminal in the bank's main vault where police later apprehended him. Making the 'Top Morning News' on PWVY-10, the story is alluded to all throughout the broadcast with teasers and clips. Finally after a commercial break, and all the other stories about heartfelt puppy rescuing, the video cuts directly to the played back scene of firefighters and EMT crews rushing about, on the backdrop of a raging fire in the dark.
"Last night, all was quiet and peaceful for the residents of Sunnyside Institute of Wellness, a place of refuge for those less fortunate than every day citisens. Those without family, home, or lucidity of mind were welcomed here without judgement, with a staff of loving doctors on call just for their needs. All that sanctity and safety was ripped from them though through the night, with an incident that not all are calling a freak accident."
The shot cuts to a bearded fellow in bright, fire-resistant attire. The ticker line beneath him addresses him as James McGuffy, Fire Marshall, SVFD. "Well honey spec'lation can't be given out in the case of a potential crime investigation, y'know, it could impervise the case. So I cannot confirm nor deny anythin' at this point." The scene cuts again to a cute chick with a microphone, talking very matter-of-fact in that reporter way. "However, upon talking to some of the other firefighters I have put together a semblance of what may have happened."
The video pans along the fire-ridden building as she continues to talk, the structure slowly being reduced to kindling in the untameable flame on playback. "The fire was reported at one in the morning, shortly after shift change. Evidence and speculation places the start of the fire in the basement, which according to our specialists at the station, was not a part of the official blueprinting of the initial building. Now that may be dated plans or that may be something else, but regardless the level was likely not up to proper coding and zoning laws for infrastructure stability and safety. Another piece of evidence says this fire was caused by an explosion, and several witnesses confirm that, saying the building shook with the bang. None of these witnesses were willing to go on camera, but I obtained, permission, to play back a recorded interview."
Camera continues to play fire scenes a short time into the recording, until flashing to the static blue of the newscreen with a blank picture frame, ticker-line reading 'Anonymous'. The voice is dishevelled and shaken, but quiet. "Yeah woke me straight up. F*beep*. F*beep*in boiler or somethin' went out. That's what they say, y'know. I know the truth. That basement? Coli and norovirus outbreak that has left 15 people hospitalized with severe food poisoning. The size of the outbreak has prompted a massive inquiry into failures by the local Health Department.
The Mayor has asked Mister Han Heung to step down as head of the local Health Department and an audit of Inspectors and records. During this audit 3 locations of serious health hazards were discovered. Most notably among them the adult entertainment location 'ï”ï˜Teatro Di Sofferenza' was found to have a massive infestation of ï”ï˜rats. The reports used words such as ï”ï˜'plague ridden', 'sickening', 'foul', and 'disgusting' in its description of conditions at the ï”ï˜Teatro Di Sofferenza'. No report was found for the ï”ï˜'T.H. Hands of Hope Mission has another ally in the war against child poverty. An event was held on the boardwalk last night the support of King's Island Entertainment, Angel Investments, The J.A.X. Lawgroup, and the Oasis Casino. Lucius Milano of the Milano Law Firm spearheaded this event in order to create a future for the underpriviledged and victimized children of our city. Hands of Hope Mission has long been a haven for women on the run from domestic violence and their precious children. The event was well attended by a who is who list of the Prospect Elite and over 114,000 dollars was raised. Also from this event, the Hands of Hope Scholarship fund was created which will allow children or single mothers to receive a full ride to UC Prospect. One candidate will be selected for this award every two years.
Moving speeches were given by local Philanthropists Madeline Blanchard and Casino Manager Silvana Vega who was primarily responsible for organizing the event. Over the last three months, our local hospital has reported a dramatic improvement in the quality and effectiveness of care provided. Following recent investment in staff training, the fatality rates in both surgery and from new admissions have plumetted to an all time low, so much that Prospect Memorial has become recognised as the safest hospital in the state. As well as this, patient satisfaction has, according to surveys, risen dramatically.
The facility has seen it's share of controvercy over the last quarter, coming under criticism for it's lax security, particularly surrounding victims of Prospect's constant inter-gang violence. However, even with these incidents taken into account, the hospital continues to prosper.
Whilst no one cause has been assigned to this recent improvement, staff who have been reached for comment have cited a number of possible reasons, including refurbishments to facilities, improving staff and patient morale and recent training schemes. To tell the truth, though, many in management don't seem to know what exactly is responsible for this success, one man stating to us "It's like we have a guardian angel in the place".

It's been just under five years since Prospect lost one of its own darlings, and this reporter still mourns. In case somebody somehow forgot, I'm going to remind you all of the lovely woman who lost her life on April 17th, 2009.
Elissa Carcassone was born right here in sunny Prospect on April 17th, 1983, exactly twenty five years before her death. She was always a star, and a lover of attention. She stared in many of our local plays, starting as young as Elementary School. Even at a young age she was involved in public service, helping at soup kitchens, and with fundraisers. She became Miss Teen Prospect at the age of fifteen, and became the youngest Miss Prospect ever, winning the competition just after turning eighteen, adding it to her list of titles such as the Prospect High Prom Queen of the class of 2002.
Elissa always wanted to be an actress, and at eighteen she left the family homestead behind to travel to Hollywood. Unlike many actresses, she made it pretty much immediatly, thanks to her wit, beauty and charm. She won her first Academy Award off of her very first movie, winning Best Breakout Role, all before turning nineteen. Over the next seven years she starred in a good deal more movies, and even directed one. She won another six Academy Awards, including Best Actress twice, Best Supporting Actress twice, best Director once, and Best Drama. She wasn't just an actress, however. She continued being a presence in Prospect, moving back here at twenty three. She was a major player in local charities and humanitarian needs, and also worked hard to raise money and awareness about issues in other countries. She was such a public and beloved face that the UN made her the Goodwill Ambassador. She was preparing for her second directorial role, and for her own birthday party, when tragedy struck.
Her famous actor fiance, Donald Sandors, for reasons still unknown, murdered her. Violently. Donald is still in prison, where he is serving several consecutive life sentences. People still leave presents or wreaths, or messages upon her local grave, or outside the quiet, abandoned home that once brought such life to the town.
This local still misses you, Elissa. I hope you are lighting up the room wherever you are in the same way you did here.

Reports state that she was home-schooled until this point, being taught by private tutors in her now very own Belvoir Castle. Rutland is known for being an incredibly small but beautiful area of Britain, and though there are more then a few jokes about its size in England, the family has never lacked wealth.
Apparently young Elysium (What a name, right?) arrived in Prospect with two attendants, her cousin and his wife, and against their advising has decided to take up a dorm room at the university! The family has been very quiet on her reasonings for attending the college, but this brave reporter has no issue making assumptions! Is she in mourning after the grisly death of her father? Is distance being put between the newly titled teenager and her ambitious little twin brother, who follows behind her by only seventy one seconds? The once popular and lauded nightclub, 'My House', was once known as a place for a good drink, great music (Either piped in by an expert DJ or through live performances by popular performance artists) was once a place that drew national acclaim to Prospect when it came to nightlife and the arts. I remember heading down there on a Friday night and waiting in enormous lines to get inside. Everything about the place was amazing. From the lights to the music to the drinks. I still have fantastic memories about the club.
However, My House has been closed since 2008, following the disappearance of the original owner, October Matthers. The place is a hazard, and still squats there like some huge, decrepit reminder of once great times. Again and again movements have been made to demolish the ruins to build something new, but again and again the locals have pushed against it for one reason or another, and it still since there. Only last month 15 year old Samantha Mays, and 16 year old Daniel Haws were injured sneaking in there. They're okay now, but the point remains to prove that this ruin is a PUBLIC HAZARD. Please, Prospect, tear down My House to make way for the future.

Eric Sanders, a veteran of Operation: Desert Shield was arrested for using spray paint to deface the downtown mosque located in the "Islamic Center of Prospect. The message allegedly left by Army Veteran SSGT Sanderson reads, "Only good sand nigger is a DEAD one. Go back to Allah!" This hateful message was placed on the concrete of the fence around the center.

In the local media appears the following story:
This weekend marks the 7th anniversary of the disappearance of Detective Wesley Cohle. Cohle is remembered for solving a variety of crimes when he worked the homicide beat for the Prospect police department. His final case, the hunt for and capture of the serial killer known as the Prospect Sin-Eater and his cult drew national media attention. Shortly after the killer and his cult were brought to justice, Cohle vanished without a trace.
This coming Wednesday, October 1st, will mark seven years to the day of his reported disappearance and listing as a missing person, and he will be officially declared as deceased despite no body having ever been found.
The Prospect PD will be hosting a memorial service for one of its most celebrated and dedicated officers, as the local boys in blue gather to say goodbye to one of their own.
The Chief had this to say, "We ask those in our community that knew Wes to make donations to the Foundation for Victims of Violent Crimes fund in lieu of sending flowers. Officer Cohle has been and will continue to be missed."

Strange things are afoot here in Prospect. In one of the less reputable areas of our fair city, where crime is more common then mercy, something strange has happened. Seemingly overnight, a litter-cluttered abandoned lot in the area has transformed. Somebody removed all of the litter and clutter, and then somehow a beautiful, stunning garden has grown. Vines cover the fence, grass grows alongside flowers and planted vetegables and fruits. Everything is incredibly vibrant, colorful and healthy. It's the kind of produce you simply do not see anymore.
Apparently, some local youths attempted to steal some of the food and cause some problems in the early hours, and they recieved a sound trashing from somebody, who they couldn't quite describe. Since then they've begun acting as a sort of 'guards' for the garden. Rules have been put in place. People are allowed to enjoy the garden all they want, and can even pick flowers or the amazingly large, fresh fruit and vegetables...as long as they use the provided seeeds to replant whatever they take.
The neighborhood has come together around this garden, and it is seeming to create a sense of community that did not exist just days ago.

A waterbomber and two ground crews of firefighters are tackling a forest fire that broke out south of Prospect on Wednesday evening.

Late on the night of October 18th Prospect was rudely reminded of the fact it is indeed a college town. In one of those poorly thought out an impulsive pranks society knows fraternities are well known for, Prospect Roasters found itself flooded with the stench of skunk.
Patrons retreated from the store as the source of the stench was found to be skunk musk that was dumped directly into the AC intake. Thankfully the smell was bad enough to alert everyone before the unit began to pump the tainted air directly into the building.
The smell was cleaned up quickly, thanks mostly to the fact the musk did not have time to spread far into the vents.
At the time of this writing no fraternities have claimed credit for the attack.

Our drought has like some much needed relief coming in! Early Tuesday morning Tropical Storm Megusta will be moving across the Mexican peninsula. We don't expect it to make it this far north however we'll be like totally feeling it! Expect heavy rain, winds, hail, thunder and like lightning too!

A quick blurb runs every few minutes across the news screens, on the radio weather updates, across the local news on the internet. There is a list of shelters from the storm. Among them are Prospect Roasters, The Looking Glass right across the street, and what used to be Harley Davidson Cafe out on Hwy 42. Prospect Roasters will be providing food and any minor medical emergency services for any and all who need it. Temporary sleeping areas will be set up in the Harley Davidson Diner and transportation will be provided between a few different locations within the city and the diner.

Still raining. Not sideways. Things are getting ugly. There's looting in most all of the lower class areas to one degree or another. Generators are being stolen, three people have been shot/stabbed/mauled for trespassing. People are getting scared! Shelters are filling up rapidly, but there are some people who are starting to open their homes. There ARE good people in the world, it would seem. Beach front properties are getting thrashed, bashed and smashed. The Teatro <BDSM club> has taken extensive damage and is now closed. St. Benedicts is still full. Hands of Hope has room. Roasters is still running their routes, and the abandoned apartments have been cleaned up a bit to accommodate at least a few people. All the power is off, unless you've got a generator. Businesses are closing down because they just don't have anything and some of them are hiring security to make sure that people aren't breaking in.

Zoo Animals recovered Mon Dec 15 Deil

Police recovered more than twenty large animals from a freighter attempting to leave harbor. An anonymous tip led Officer Jorge Custodio to the harbor district where a dock locked down in response to the storm had been commandeered by smugglers loading a Chinese vessel with large animals stolen from zoos all over the Southwest United States and smuggled here in secret.
The skeleton crew responsible for supervising the warehouse district have been hospitalized and police are supervising the return of the animals to the zoos and habitats from which they were abducted.

Light and Dark in the Storm for Ol Tue Dec 16 Rook

Lots of activity good and bad has been ending up in Olive and D during this storm crisis. The block's traditionally poor residents are one of the city's least able to fend for themselves and when they can do so, historically the surrounding gangs have been quick to step in and leech anything away. Not so much during the storm though.
The near by Walmart's now former manager inexplicably donated several truck loads of generators, food, clothing, food, and household living supplies to the residents of Olive and D. As to why that city block or why give out /vastly/ more than the manager was authorized to donate to any cause, he could only answer that 'it felt like the right thing and needed to be done.' For public relations during the local crisis, Walmart is not pressing charges in to what could be seen as over a million dollars in theft by the manager.
On a more dark note; distribution of good was overseen by Furio Beniti(Streetwise 3 places him as an Italian organized crime lieutenant) and his crew of 'workers'. No collections were made, the good were given out as needed, with the muscle actually helping the elderly, homeless, and young by setting up multiple 'commune' style shelters with generator heating, light, and food prep.
More ominous; while some might expect local gangs to make a play for the trucks, their numbers have seemed to become drastically depleted in Olive and D more and more during the storm's duration.

Dark Prince of Finance Tue Dec 30 Slate.com

The internet is abuzz about a Slate.com article centering on billionaire investor Alan Moon, an article that some are calling brilliant investigative journalism, and others are calling a hatchet job. Its title, 'The Dark Prince of Finance', is almost as eye-catching as its first picture, a shot of Alan taken from an old Forbes article where he's lounging in a big carved oak chair in a pose that, combined with the stark lighting, makes him look like a Bond villain.
The article, which runs many pages in length, opens with a great story to grab the reader, the story of the reporter sneaking onto the Moonhaven compound, and all the scandalous things he saw there. From there, the reporter reminds the reader that Alan Moon is a product of that strange and cultish place, that he even once rescued it when the IRS was threatening to close it down, and then down the rabbit hole he goes.
There are a couple of paragraphs recounting Alan's rise; these recollections and interviews cast Alan as a powerful and uncaring god with a dangerous mind and a broken body, a man hardened and made cruel by a corrupt financial system that he has come to dominate until his soul became as twisted as his physical form. It's like 'Game of Thrones', except with bankruptcy instead of beheadings.
When the article moves on to discuss Alan's back room access to the Obama administration and his longtime friendship with Fed chair Janet Yellen, however, the tone turns downright sinister. There's an edge of conspiracy to the reporting now, the implicit question of whether someone with so much power could resist abusing it.
The reporter closes with the events that prompted the writing of the article: A recent stock trade, an unlikely bet on a biotech company, that made Alan an incredible amount of money. The company, small and relatively unknown, had been working on a new class of antibiotic specifically targeted at antibiotic-resistent bacteria. The general opinion was that the company was chasing the impossible, which meant its share value was in the toilet, but a few days after Alan bought up a lot of those shares, early results from the company's phase II clinical trials were leaked, and those results were so promising that the stock more than tripled overnight, and its price per share is still climbing.
Alan Moon, the reporter reminds the reader, had long since left the 1% behind, but now, on paper anyway, he's probably in the ranks of the .01%, at least, a true American dark prince who ruthlessly seized the crown.
