This is not an exhaustive list, but there are some details picked to share to give an idea of the levels.

Level 1:

  • Basic understanding of the necessities (Chi/blood) and the banes (sunlight causes flesh to rot)
    • Not the same as Western Vampires
  • They are of Asian descent
  • They are closest to Vampires but ancestry from East and Southeast Asia
  • Rumor that they are corrupted descendants of legends from the Middle Kingdom
  • Know some of their terms ("Hungry Dead", Yin, Yang, Chi, etc)
    • Term for them is Kuei-jin (Kuei - Mandarin word for ghost; Jin - Japanese word for person)
  • The concept that their power comes from Chi and to get it they must drink blood from the living.
  • You know the names of the different Dharmas
  • You know they are on a spiritual trek, called a Dharma, looking to achieve enlightenment, and the names of the different Dharmas


Level 2:

  • The concept that the closer to enlightenment (higher Dharma) they get, the more power they possess
  • Not created through the act of another
  • Their blood has no supernatural properties and cannot create Blood Bonds or Ghouls
  • They were humans (sinners) that were killed and took a 'second breath' to rejoin the land of the living after escaping from Hell
  • When they take their 'second breath' back into a human body, they are a mad cannibal and must be captured before too many are taking in a killing spree and trained by other Kuei-jin
  • They have two souls: Hun (high soul - more refined, intellectual) and P'o (lower soul - brutal aspect of a person)
  • They are closer to a risen then a vampire - a spirit inhabiting reanimated flesh either their own or someone else.
  • The need for blood is phased out as Dharma rises to 4, than can feed off the breath of a living person.
  • Constantly struggling between their two souls, as the P'o wants to take over
  • Their Chi - the energy they live off of - is divided into Yin (vulnerable to wood) and Yang (vulnerable to metal).
  • Yang infused KJ can get drunk with enough spirits, and even have children
  • Can give short descriptions of the different Dharmas
  • You know about the Yama Kings and their growing of chi corruption in the material world


Level 3:

  • Divided into Courts
  • You know the names of the five greatest courts
  • Has an understanding of their Disciplines
  • You know something about their Rituals
  • Know many of the old terms and their meanings
  • Bound together in Wu (i.e.: Pack), mystically linked to each other and a guardian Nushi (i.e.: Totem)


Level 4:

  • Have a deeper understanding of Rituals
  • Have a knowledge of the dharma specific version of Disciplines
  • Can name many well known Ancestors and leaders of the Courts


Level 5:

  • Knowledge of the Jade Emperor
  • Once the purpose that brought them back has been accomplished, they will go to rest again
